Cost Of Lap Band Surgery - Show Me The $$$

In the USA, the cost of Lap-Band surgery runs from about $17,000 up to $30,000 or more. For the most part, the costs include pre-op tests, surgeon fees and hospital charges, as well as lab fees.

Lap-Band surgery is also available out of the country, often at much lower costs than in the United States, due to lower overhead costs.

The Lap-Band procedure is commonly used in Australia and Europe, and was available about eight years before it was approved by the FDA in the United States. In Europe and Australia, costs can range from $11,000 to $16,000. The costs in Mexico, Brazil, India and Canada will run roughly the same.

What About Health Insurance - Will They Cover The Cost Of My Lap Band Surgery?

As health insurance plans can vary greatly, the first thing you'll want to do is see if you're covered by your insurance plan. If your insurance covers the cost of lap band surgery, that's great. If not, many hospitals and surgeons will offer you livable payment plans. Also, if you are going to travel to your surgery, the cost of lap band surgery should include travel costs and accommodations.

Of course, having surgery close to home is probably the best idea, since the surgeon is close by for follow-up care. However, if the cost difference is really great, accepting some risk by traveling may be an acceptable trade-off for saving some money.

Why Look At Before & After Weight Loss Surgery Pictures?

Of course, the most obvious reason you should take a look at some success pictures is to see what people usually look like after the surgery. Those stats claiming you'll lose 54.3% of your body fat don't really give you a good visual idea of what a heavy person who's lost that amount of fat actually looks like before and after the weight loss. Pictures, on the other hand, show you exactly.

Motivation And Real Stories For Weight Loss Surgery

The second reason is motivation. Let's face it, weight loss surgery is not only risky and uncomfortable, it's also requires a major, life-long commitment. It's scary and most of up need a little push even when we know all about the health benefits of carrying around less weight. That push often comes in the form of an image of how much better you'll look after the surgery. When you see a photo of someone who's as heavy as you may be now, then see how much thinner they are six months or a year after the surgery, you'll get that needed boost in motivation to actually take the plunge and have the surgery done.

Another good reason to seek out before and after pictures online is that most of these photos come along with the true stories of real people who've had weight loss surgery and went on to lead better, healthier lives because of it. There's no better way to learn what the experience is really like.

How To Find Authentic Weight Loss Surgery Before/After Pictures

Take care to make sure the photos you view online are actually pictures of weight loss surgery patients. Stay away from poorly designed, ad-ridden sites with little professional content. Sites that don't put much effort into their content are liable to collect any and all weight loss before and after pictures they find online and claim the people had weight loss surgery when actually they probably just went on a diet.

To find authentic weight loss surgery before and after pictures, you'll have to hunt around a little. The best places to look are hospital and clinic web sites that post pictures of their own patients' success. Following that, check out some general health sites where the content is high quality.

Lap Band Surgery Costs

Are They REAL Before/After Pictures? How To Tell

So many make-over pictures out there only look good because the before picture is an amateur snapshot, whereas the after picture is done in a professional photography study with the subject wearing just the right outfit and hairstyle and the women having had make-up professionally applied. It's apples and oranges, really. For this reason, look for photo sets where both pictures are snapshots or both pictures are professional.

It's also hard to judge weight from a photo. To get a more accurate idea of what you might look like some months after the surgery, try to find photos that list the starting and current weight or at least the clothing sizes of the patients.

Remember, though, there's more to learning about these life-changing procedures than just looking at weight loss surgery before and after pictures. Make sure you're well informed about the medical and psychological aspects. To learn more, read through the personal stories accompanying the weight loss surgery before and after pictures you find online.

Diet After Weight Loss Surgery - Early Recovery Period

Recovery period following weight loss surgery
For the first three months after your weight loss surgery, diet will be restricted to liquids and soft foods.

Phase I:
You'll start out for the first few days on a liquid diet consisting of liquid protein supplements, clear broth, juice, and possibly milk. After this, for the next three or four weeks, you'll eating be pureed foods like applesauce, refried beans and pureed carrots and potatoes. This also means any medication you need will have to be crushed to a power. Frequency is also important. At first, you'll need to eat 6 times a day, whether hungry or not.

Phase II:
After about six weeks, you can progress to soft foods like cooked vegetables, finely ground meats, soft fruits, and scrambled eggs. This diet lasts for around eight weeks, then you gradually add firmer foods depending on what your dietician recommends.

Phase III
In the last period of your recovery, you'll be able to try regular foods to test your reaction to them. For the first three months, however, no caffeine or carbonated beverages are allowed for because they can cause gas and bloating. Keep in mind that there are some foods not recommended for those who've had weight loss surgery and you're better off avoiding these altogether.

Diet After Weight Loss Surgery - Problem Foods

After weight loss surgery, diet can never be the same as before. The main change is that you'll need to stick to smaller portions of around 1 to 1 ? cups of food (about the size of a tennis ball)
with each meal.

There are some foods that should never be included in a diet after weight loss surgery. Some of the bad ones are sugary and fried or greasy foods. These can cause "dumping," meaning undigested food is dumped straight into the small intestine, which leads to nausea and sweats.

Other problematic foods are certain breads and pasts, tough meats, high fiber vegetables, fruit skins and dried fruit, nuts, seeds and coconut, popcorn. Common spices like pepper and cinnamon also give some people trouble.

Supplements For Your Diet After Weight Loss Surgery

Following weight loss surgery, your digestive track is no longer able to absorb needed nutrients from food. Usually, you'll need a multivitamin plus a calcium-vitamin D combo, vitamin B-12, and, if you're a menstruating woman, iron

Importance Of Your Post Surgery Diet

While the necessary diet after weight loss surgery is rigid and restrictive, it's vital that you follow the eating plan your dietician sets out for you. Not doing so could seriously damage your health, not to mention leave you feeling miserable. Stay on the proper diet after weight loss surgery, though, and you'll see the pounds drop and your health improve.

Free Weight Loss Surgery - How To Get Your Surgery For Free

The idea of getting free weight loss surgery may sound like a pipe dream, but some people have actually been able to realize that dream. While it's extremely difficult to find such opportunities, knowing what to look for in your search will increase your chances. To get you started, here are some tips on how to get free weight loss surgery.

How Much Weight Can YOU Lose?

Free Weight Loss Surgery From The Government

Are you looking for weight loss surgery in Texas? If so, you might be interested to know that in 2006, the County Office of Travis county, Texas started offering its employees free gastric bypass surgery. They calculated that around 10% of their employees were obese enough to qualify for weight loss surgery, meaning they also had obesity related complications like diabetes or heart disease. Realizing a lower obesity rate would save money by decreasing absentee rates and medical insurance costs, they decided to pay for this pricy surgery themselves to improve the overall health of their staff.

If, on the other hand, you live in the UK, you should know that the NHS covers weight loss surgery. Keep in mind, though, that there are fairly strict requirements to qualify for complete coverage. Those requirements are currently even higher due to the extraordinary demand for these procedures. While a Body Mass Index of 40 would qualify a person for the surgery, at the moment, the NHS is considering only those with a BMI of over 60.

Special Offers For Free Weight Loss Surgery

In 2006, Dominick Artuso, a surgeon near New York city, offered to select 10 people who badly needed weight loss surgery and operate on them free of charge. Call it a publicity stunt of an act of compassion, either way, the surgery was being provided at no cost. Unfortunately, though, there was a catch. Although Artuso was willing to work for free, patients still had to pay for the hospital fees, which the surgeon had no control over. Keep an eye out for such offers in the future and you may get lucky.

Not long ago, Good Morning America carried a story about a woman who badly needed weight loss surgery to save her life, but couldn't get insurance or pay for the surgery herself. Her solution? To ask her friends and fellow church members to pitch in a little to help her gather enough money. Her strategy was successful and she was able to get the surgery.

Clinical Trials and Free Weight Loss Surgery Options

If you're not afraid to be a guinea pig, you may want to look into weight loss surgery clinical trials conducted by medical research clinics. While many of these trials involve some new improvement on standard weight loss surgeries like the lap band or gastric bypass, every now and then brand new methods are tested. Not only are you likely to get free weight loss surgery this way, you may even be paid a small sum for participating.

Will Insurance Pay For Weight Loss Surgery?

Unfortunately, it's hard enough to get insurance companies to pay even part of the cost of weight loss surgery, much less all of it. If you go about it right, though, you may be able to get full coverage.

Medicare will cover weight loss surgery if you can prove that you're too disabled to work or take part in everyday activities. Blue Cross and Blue Shield cover weight loss surgery, although you'll have to pay a few hundred dollars in co-payments. Through Triwest, an insurance provider for the U.S. military, you can get free gastric bypass surgery and follow up surgeries at places like Balboa Hospital in San Diego.

While it's best not to get your heart set on getting free weight loss surgery, with diligence and a little luck, you may just find a way.

Lap Band Surgery FAILURE.. What Are The Odds?

Lap band surgery seems to be a miracle for many obese people - but is it really as good as it sounds? What is the failure rate for lap band surgery procedures?

Can Lap Band Surgery Fail? What Are The Odds That You WON'T Lose Weight?

How Often Does Lap Band Surgery Fail? What Causes Lap Band Surgery Failure? Over at WeightLossSurgeryResearch.com, we have been helping others decide about weight loss surgery. Naturally, the success rate of a surgery for weight loss (like the lap band procedure) is a primary factor in their over-all decision.

Lap-Band Surgery is the process of inserting an inflatable silicone device called a Lap-Band around the stomach. This is a medical appetite control device which is adjusted according to the need of the patient, determined by the surgeon.

Basically, the Lap-Band is placed around the stomach, which divides the stomach into two pouches. The upper pouch receives the food into the upper pouch. When its size increases, it applies pressure on the Lap-Band which then inflates, causing a feeling of fullness. This way, you no longer have to feel hungry and deprived because of dieting.

Lap-Band Surgery can be done through Laparoscopic Surgery, Bariatric Surgery etc. However, if care is not exercised after the procedure, lap band surgery failure may occur, although it's very rare.

Questions About Weight Loss Surgery?

"I had SO many questions about weight loss surgery.. what can I eat? What will it be like? What will it cost? Will it work for me?

WeightLossSurgeryResearch.com answered them all!"
- Brenda, NJ

The Primary Cause Of Lap Band Surgery Failure

After the Lap-Band procedure, patients are advised by the doctor to keep away from alcoholic beverages, tea, coffee, etc. At least for a reasonable time period. Junk foods such as pretzels, chips, sweets, pastas and baked goods are against the rules of weight loss surgery, yet these foods are often abused when the patient, for whatever reason, starts to experience what's known in the field as Head Hunger. Eating these things becomes the weak point of patient willpower, even though the patient knows very well that these things are forbidden. This is considered to be the main cause of lap band surgery failure.

Lap Band Surgery Complications

Although the success rate of Lap-Band Surgery is not 100%, no surgical procedure is, your control over your eating will play a huge part in its success rate.

Some complications also may arise from Lap-Band procedures like nausea, vomiting, constipation, dysphagia, diarrhea, and abnormal stools etc., but they all can be treated. On rare occasions, some people have the Lap-Band removed because of complications.

Again, the success rate of lap band procedures is very high, and many many lives have been changed for the better as a result.

How To Have Successful Lap Band Surgery

Remember, patience is a virtue. It's going to take a little time to change your eating habits, so don't fall back on old poor eating habits, which are the main cause of lap band surgery failure. Just imagine how good you're going to look and feel, once you've adjusted to the lap band procedure along with new eating habits and start shedding those pounds, permanently!
